Resources

One of the primary objectives of the Foundation for Mental Health is to help consumers and their families navigate through the myriad options available in public and private mental health systems.   While our primary concentration is on services and resources in Connecticut, we've also included national resources.

Books and Journals

These printed materials are useful resources for recovery-oriented information on mental illness issues.

Education

In addition to the Not Crazy curriculum, we've also included information on mental illness, other educational programs, and family/consumer information.

Emergency/Crisis Resources

These resources includes information for people in crisis, as well as resources to avoid a crisis situation.  As in any emergency situation, if you or someone else is in any danger, please call 911 for immediate assistance.

Financial Resources

Though financial resources for people with psychiatric disabilities can be limited, we've included information on how to access governmental benefits and hope to add information on private and public funds available for recovery resources.

Housing Resources

This housing information includes contact numbers for Housing Authorities in Connecticut, DMHAS-supervised housing programs, and organizations that offer supportive housing for people with psychiatric disabilities or a dual diagnosis.

Job/Vocational Resources

It can be difficult to find a job if you are in any stage of recovery from mental illness.  This section can help you find organizations that will help people with disabilities find jobs that will be supportive during this process.

Legal and Advocacy Information

Disabilities such as mental illness are specifically addressed by the law, and people with mental illness are in a protected class.  This section will give you information on organizations that can help you understand your rights and responsibilities.  We've also included organizations that can advocate for people with disabilities, and teach people to advocate for themselves.

Transportation Resources

Transportation to and from appointments, and help getting around town may be a challenge.  We've provided information on organizations that connect people to transportation services.

Treatment Resources and Options

One of the broadest categories, this section includes information on organizations and agencies that may be able to provide you with info on illnesses, treatment, recovery, and other miscellaneous support.
